The inventory is mainly based on industry data and is completed, where necessary, by secondary data. All the datasets represent an average of representative components, based on materials applied in average on the selected component and modelled via typical, representative, manufacturing processes.98The data set represents global average conditions by applying chinese local reference. The data set is based on the main technologies currently in use as well as industry material specifications and relevant statistics. The component name contains following information: name of the component, e.g. Capacitor; type, e.g. Al-capacitor axial THT; mass of the component in brackets, e.g. (21g); size details (3 types): D14x25 - the size is given in mm for diameter x height; 13x13x1.75 - the size is given in mm for length x width x height; 0201 - the size is given in inch (0.02 x 0.01inch) for width and length.
Select components and processes by type, size, mass and housing design, which is most suitable to reflect the product under consideration. In case the suitable component is not available, a scaling according to mass and size of the most appropriate component can be applied, e.g. scaling 1.5 pieces in the model to reflect 3 smaller pieces in the product. The dataset can be linked to the component mixer and scaled via parameter by piece, by mass, by size.
The most important groups of so called passive electronic components are regarded, which are different types of capacitors, resistors, inductions/coils, oscillators and electronic switches. The respective processes provide a representative component, which is based on a typical, respective material mix and representative typical manufacturing processes. The output is mostly given in pieces and has the respective property of mass (given in flow names and regarded in flow properties).
The following representative and typical manufacturing processes are applied, either to single materials or groups of materials of the entire material mixes or to entire components. The table below references, which component has applied what type of manufacturing process.
Sputtering is a physical vapour deposition (PVD) process whereby atoms in a solid target material are ejected into the gas phase due to bombardment of the material with energetic ions. It is commonly used for thin-film deposition.
Sintering is a method for generating objects from powder by heating the material (below its melting point) until its particles adhere to each other. Most often pressure is applied during the sinter process.
Ceramic wet casting and burning - in order to receive a ceramic body, the dried raw ceramic powder is mixed with a binder and by using a solvent poured into a shape giving form. This can be a continuously running process in kind of a foil casting. The solvent evaporates and the mix of ceramic and binder keeps its shape and can be burned in the same way as dry mixed or sinter ceramic. It is most often applied for all electronic components based on a ceramic body.
Soldering is a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal into the joint, the filler metal having a relatively low melting point.
Stamping is a metalworking process by which sheet metal strips are punched using a press tool which is loaded on a machine press or stamping press to form the sheet into a desired shape.
Bending is a common manufacturing method to process sheet metal. It is usually done on a bend press (or press brake), but also swing-bending-machines are used.
Injection moulding is a manufacturing technique for making parts from both thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials in production. Molten plastic is injected at high pressure into a mould, which is the inverse of the product's shape.
Sheet deep drawing is a process where a metal sheet is bended by punching a plunger and holding down the sheet around the plunger. Typically a cup like form is drawn.
Foil making is a process in which a sheet is rolled further until foil is reached with a typical thickness of 0.02 mm up to 0.2 mm
Wrapping is a process in which a wire is coiled around a core, e.g. a copper wire wrapped around a core of ferromagnetic material.
In wire drawing, the respective diameter is realised by rolling, drawing and tempering between drawing steps.
Dip soldering is accomplished by submerging parts to be joined into a molten solder bath. The molten bath can be any suitable filler metal, but the selection is usually confined to the lower melting point elements. The most common dip soldering operations use zinc-aluminum and tin-lead solders.
In the print and etch process there is a core preparation consisting of surface preparation, photoresist application, exposure to UV light, development, etching, stripping of the photoresist, oxide treatment, drying.
Regarding the MLCC capacitors, it shall be considered that two different series of this capacitors are included in the database: on series only considering base metals and another considering the precious metals.
Background system:
Electricity: Electricity is modelled according to the individual country-specific situations. The country-specific modelling is achieved on multiple levels. Firstly, individual energy carrier specific power plants and plants for renewable energy sources are modelled according to the current national electricity grid mix. Modelling the electricity consumption mix includes transmission / distribution losses and the own use by energy producers (own consumption of power plants and "other" own consumption e.g. due to pumped storage hydro power etc.), as well as imported electricity. Secondly, the national emission and efficiency standards of the power plants are modelled as well as the share of electricity plants and combined heat and power plants (CHP). Thirdly, the country-specific energy carrier supply (share of imports and / or domestic supply) including the country-specific energy carrier properties (e.g. element and energy content) are accounted for. Fourthly, the exploration, mining/production, processing and transport processes of the energy carrier supply chains are modelled according to the specific situation of each electricity producing country. The different production and processing techniques (emissions and efficiencies) in the different energy producing countries are considered, e.g. different crude oil production technologies or different flaring rates at the oil platforms.
Thermal energy, process steam: The thermal energy and process steam supply is modelled according to the individual country-specific situation with regard to emission standards and considered energy carriers. The thermal energy and process steam are produced at heat plants. Efficiencies for thermal energy production are by definition 100% in relation to the corresponding energy carrier input. For process steam the efficiency ranges from 85%, 90% to 95%. The energy carriers used for the generation of thermal energy and process steam are modelled according to the specific import situation (see electricity above).
Transports: All relevant and known transport processes are included. Ocean-going and inland ship transport as well as rail, truck and pipeline transport of bulk commodities are considered.
Energy carriers: The energy carriers are modelled according to the specific supply situation (see electricity above).
Refinery products: Diesel fuel, gasoline, technical gases, fuel oils, lubricants and residues such as bitumen are modelled with a parameterised country-specific refinery model. The refinery model represents the current national standard in refining techniques (e.g. emission level, internal energy consumption, etc.) as well as the individual country-specific product output spectrum, which can be quite different from country to country. The supply of crude oil is modelled, again, according to the country-specific situation with the respective properties of the resources.Polyethylene terephthalate granulate (PET via DMT)Polyamide 6.6 Granulate (PA 6.6) MixPolycarbonate Granulate (PC)Lead (99,995%)Ferro chrome mixAluminium ingot mixProvision of a standard technical product according to the applied technology, e.g. capacitors, resistors, coils, EMS shielding, filter, key switch, oscillator, thermistor, varistor, etc.Electronics_passives_table1.jpgElectronics_passives_table2.jpgElectronics_passives_table3.jpgElectronics_passives_table4.jpgElectronics GLO General flow diagram for solder bath dipped passive components.jpgElectronics GLO General flow diagram for PVD passive components.jpgElectronics GLO General flow diagram for ring core coils.jpgElectronics GLO General flow diagram for oscillators.jpgElectronics GLO General flow diagram for EMS shielding.jpgLCI resultAttributionalNoneAllocation - market valueAllocation - net calorific valueAllocation - exergetic contentFOREGROUND system: None.
